Out of curiosity, how long did it take to complete this job? Did the restoration include a lot of exterior work as well as the beautiful interion work that is obvious in the photo?

I've got to get up there sometime soon!

The project was completed over a number of years, while work was being done on other cars at the same time. The exterior has also been completely restored. The exterior photo below was taken in 1999. More photos of the interior restoration can be found at the link below:

Boyd-

Any news on EJ&S #2? Is she going to be a static "as is" for researchers in the future? Think she'd be an excellent candidate for research "moth-balling", but then again I'm bias to cars with a GT/ Fort Gratiot Car Shops history....

Last I knew she's one of the next cars up for full restoration. Mid-Continent's priorities for restoration tend to change often though (as is evident by the started and never finished siding job in the photo), so that may have changed...

Stephen:

The CR60 project represents about 12 years of volunteer restoration effort. this effort included exterior as well as exterior work. Exterior work included replacement of all of the window trim, and complete replacement of the end platforms. As received, the car had a fabricated steel end sill, and steps and platform to match. Replacing the platform involved new woodwork, new castings and other fabrications and lots of research. fortunately, CR25 lives in the Coach shed, and soem research was right in our own back yard.

Interior work included stripping and bleaching the waterstained Oak woodwork (results of leaking roof prior to MC ownership) new widows, lots of brass polishing and thousands of dollars to cover the seats in authentic red plush. The electrical wiring, installed (I think ) in te teens was replaced with new wiring materials.

CR60 is lamost done. This weekend should see the installation of the two oil lanmps and other samll, cold weather tasks should be undertaken. Look for more news at the MC website.

Upcoming will see Wisconsin Central 63 moving in for further restoration.

Keep'em between the rails!!
