Found the below photo, and was wondering if anyone knew anything about this gas-electric, like what's all the extra "stuff" on top?

Thanks,
Boyd

Looks like a Milwaukee Road electrified overhead line car. These self contained cars were used until replaced by off rail line trucks in the late '50s. Visible are ladders and the main work platform on top.

Thanks.
Were these cars built originally as line cars, or were they conversions from passenger gas-electrics?

According to the Stauss/Nighswonger color guide to Milwaukee Road equipment, the X670 and X671 were "trouble shooter cars" based in Cle Elum, WA (Coast Divison) and Three Forks, MT (Rocky Mountain Division), respectively. The cars were built in 1930 by EMC/Pullman for the Northwestern Pacific, acquired by the MILW in 1940 and subsequently converted.
