<P>Union Pacific's Steam Locomotive 3985 Will Make Run to Los Angeles<p>FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:<p><br>OMAHA, July 26 -- Union Pacific Railroad's operational steam locomotive, The Challenger, will make a live run from Cheyenne, Wyoming to Los Angeles where it will be on display at Union Station during the Democratic National Convention August 13-18.<p><br>The locomotive will leave its home base at Cheyenne July 30. <p><br>The Challenger is the largest operational steam locomotive in the world today. It was built in 1943. It is one of 105 Challengers built for UP for use in passenger and fast freight service. It was retired in 1962, but restored to operating condition by a group of volunteer UP employees in 1981 for use in community service.<br> <p><br>One of the unique features is that the frame of the locomotive is "articulated" or hinged to allow it to go through curves. The locomotive is powered by two separate sets of cylinders and driving wheels. Its top speed is about 70 miles per hour.<p><br>The itinerary for the trip is as follows.
