Does anyone know when Wilmington and Western's 4-4-0 #98 will be returning to the active roster?

This is not a very scientific way of measuring, but every weekend, the Wilmington and Western runs an ad in the Wilmington News Journal, advertising the Friday, Saturday and Sunday runs. They have a unique way of actually showing the motive power to be used in the ad. If the diesel is running, the show the SW-1. If the doodlebug will be running, show show the PAUL REVERE, and if the steam train will be running, they show the same steam locomotive every week, 0-6-0 #58. Except last weekend, they showed 98 instead!!!!!! Anyone know? I sent an e-mail but have not heard back.

According to David Ludlow, Ex. Dir. of the W&W, on June 5th:

"The boiler has major firebox repairs, including side sheets, door sheet, (crown sheet was in good shape) flue sheets, extensive throttle and dry pipe repairs and a new smoke box. We will be installing the flues very shortly. Once this is completed we will be lifting the boiler for reassembly to the frame . . . We hope to return #98 to full service this fall."

I recently heard from Dr Yuill who is performing this major surgery that he expects to be out of the operating room by October. Best wishes to 98 for a speedy recovery.

I was working in Marshallton yard this past Wednesday evening, and stopped in the backshop to see the progress. Bob & Co., our staff, and daytime volunteers are really putting a lot of time and love into 98; they're doing a great job. I'm really going to get excited when they begin to cut the new smokebox and fit it to the shell. Seth
