The Navy is auctioning 9 tank cars that were built 1952-1962. Since most spent their life within the confines of Norfolk Naval Shipyard they probably have low miles and are well maintained. Starting bid is $35/each...bidding can be done on-line and closes Aug 20th. Pictures are on the web page. May be useful for something?

And the Naval Weapons Station at Earle, N.J. is
trying to dispose of about 250 50-ton XL boxcars
built about 1954.
5-1/2 x 10" friction bearings, wood floors, many
with sprayed-on asbestoes interior rustproofing,
some with new galvanized roofs, instead.
It may be possible to arrange movement on their
own wheels to any point on the Navy's railroad,
which does extend a long distance into Newark Bay.

There is also what appears to be Pullman-built Troop Sleeper car, fitted out with living quarters and a diesel generator set, up for auction. Apparently located at Eglin Air Force base in Florida, starting bid also $35.
