Within the last few months, there have been scattered references to the newly created Wilton Scenic Railroad out of Wilton, New Hampshire. I took a ride for the first time today and I thought you'd be interested in my thoughts.
First the line is a portion of the B&M's Hillsborough branch which Phil Hastings photographed in the forties. At that time, the heart of mogul country. Things haven't changed that much, but you won't find the moguls.
The ride was well patronized and everything was well ordered and efficient. The only odd thing was the ability to order tickets online, but not pay for them that way. That caused a little delay at the ticket office.
The rolling stock won't interest railfans that much unless you're into RDCs, but the cars were well maintained and clean. I'd prefer open window coaches, but maybe that's too much to ask.
The ride is mostly through the woods, but it has its moments. Just now the stopping point is Greenfield State Park for 20 minutes, not long enough to go to the beach and you have to ride backwards on the return trip.
