According to steamlocomotive.com, Edaville once had 2 standard gauge Henschel Locomotives that have been sold. Anyone know of their whereabouts/Industries they served before coming to Edaville?

That made me check up on one of the other mystery Henschels I've seen - the one in Quaker Square at Akron. I'd examined both the 0-6-0 and that in depth several years ago. The CB&Q switcher was pretty well deteriorated, but my, that little Henschel was in great shape then, to the point I wondered why it ended up there given the condition.

Apparently it's still there, much worse condition....? Google Streetview still shows it there in May 2024, along with the very sad looking 0-6-0.

I was in Edaville as a kid, and I think I've got a shot of that locomotive taken on my original Instamatic.

The 'hoot and holler' of operating Henschels is at Boothbay, ME at the railroad village. They have a circle of track around the site with a couple of those on site, and there's a rather stiff grade on it, where you really hear them work absurdly hard, and you can practically be in the cab it's so close. Only place I've ever seen one run, and don't pass it up if you're nearby. Surprisingly loud for such a little guy.

What's the heritage of the loco at Silver Dollar City? It looks like a Henschel to me, based purely on impressions from photos. Not standard gauge though.

Don't overlook Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO. These guys have done a phenomenal job improving the railroad over the last ten years under the guise of their CMO. They went from three locomotives to five, not including the Davenport. These guys run every day that the park is open, not shutting down for cold weather as most theme parks do. I've seen photos of icicles hanging off of the running gear after a hard day of running in late December. They also don't do what most theme parks do and just putter along - they run as if they have a business in moving people - and that's what they do - moving people from the depot to the train robbery/Christmas show - and back. It's quite a neat railroad and when you take the time to look around and realize what the operating territory entails, it's quite impressive. I look forward to riding and jawing with the crew any time I'm in town.
