New Haven, Kentucky, home of the Kentucky Railway Museum. Plainly visible in some of the video is the flooded turntable pit, lawn, etc.--but it's possible damage to the Museum's equipment is minimal.

Social media posts at https://www.facebook.com/kyrail show cleanup of what looks like an inch or two of water in their main building.

Thanks for the concern. Flooding is a great inconvenience for KRM, but it is not unexpected. We have been in our current location in New Haven since 1990 and experience moderate flooding like this every 8-10 years on average. Our main depot building is elevated out of the flood plain, and our shop was not impacted at all by this event, nor any equipment.

We do have an activities building that does flood, but we do not put anything of value in there and we make it easy to clear out on short notice. We use paneling that can be easily replaced on the lower interior walls instead of drywall and no carpet, of course. We pretty much just hose out the mud and set up fans and dehumidifiers to dry everything out.

As far as the railroad, we are still waiting for the water to recede at the extreme northern end, where our connection with CSX is, but we have been able to inspect the rest of the line. There are no issues with the three miles south of New Haven to Gethsemane and Log Still Distillery. We have a slight ballast washout just north of New Haven, and then we are in good shape for about 9 miles, where we have a more significant washout of about 100 yards south of the Beech Fork River bridge near Boston. The track is still intact, but we will need to re-ballast and tamp this section.

We will run trains south for the time being, but depending on our track contractor’s availability, I expect we’ll have the whole line operational again within 4 weeks.

Living in the flood plain impacts every major decision at the museum when it comes to long term planning and development. Any new structures in New Haven will have to be elevated about five feet above the current ground level grade, adding significantly to their expense. It’s unfortunate, but we are blessed that the location is workable 99% of the time, and we do own our railroad, despite the headaches that occasionally come from that.
