My sister ran across an old issue of the Saturday Evening Post (August 9, 1947), thought that I might be interested in the cover and so, purchased it and mailed it to me. To say that I was delighted, would be an understatement! As you can see, the painting by a gentleman named Steven Dohanos and printed on that cover of the Post, shows an engineer and fireman of what is probably a yard engine as they take a moment to admire the flowers grown by perhaps a yardman, street flagman, or other company employee. My eye of course, was attracted to their steamer in the background. Looking at the part of the "OHIO" shown, my first thought was that this was a Chesapeake & Ohio engine. But then the Belpaire boiler got me. Did the C&O have such engines? I didn't think so, but maybe. I then read in the blurb for the cover, that the painter had once worked for the Baltimore & Ohio. And he had done the painting in his hometown of Lorain, Ohio and the railroad apparently moved "trains around to suit his convenience". Well, the B&O served Lorain, but not the C&O. I then tried to find an engine reference, and the B&O had some 0-8-0's that photos seemed to show a fit to the painted subject, number 1067. So, I'm guessing B&O, despite the lettering on the tender.

There was one other interesting reference in the magazine which might fit into RyPN a little bit. On page 101 was an ad for the Pennsylvania Railroad passenger service. As you can see that photo shows a PRR passenger train being hauled by a T1. Although the 1067, or her sister engines didn't survive, maybe one day we will see a T1 again hauling passengers.

Here is a photo of an engine numbered 3 ahead, #1070, looks like a Belpaire boiler. According to the RRPA roster here all the engines in this series would have been 0-8-0's, converted from 2-8-0's, with some from Richmond and some from Pittsburgh. https://www.rrpicturearchives.net/locoL ... =BO&Page=2

Thanks for that photo. I looked on that "rrpicturearchives" website and found a shot of another engine from that same series (number 1045) which was taken from the engineer's side. Everything pretty much matched up with the subject painted engine # 1067. Even the "OHIO" size lettering was a match!
