Yes, you read that correctly. The 1385 flew twice today (7/7) in her journey back to home rail at Mid-Continent Railway Museum In North Freedom, Wi. Since there is no unobsructed highway route we placed our beloved R-1 on a flatcar which is scheduled to be delivered later this week pending acceptance by the WSOR.
There is a public Homecoming celebration planned for this Saturday (7/12) at Mid-Continent and she's scheduled to be picked and then placed on home rail Monday the 14th.
No, it is not ready to run but it is ready for the next phase of testing to get her ready..............mld

I am glad the C&NW #1385 is getting close to steaming at the Mid-Continent Railway Museum. It has taken many years to get her ready to steam again.

Since she will only have 1472 days to steam; I hope that they are thinking about the next
steam locomotive in the collection that can be worked on and overhauled.

I realize this is a bit "old news" but here is a link to the Trains report on the #1385's homecoming.

I'm happy to report the engine was safely placed on home rail last Monday (7/14) and mated to the tender. I hope to have a photo or two to share on that as soon as I get permission. Since I was engineer on one of the switch crews I was a bit too busy to take photos myself.........mld
