I just saw a brief note that Edward M. (Mel) Mcfarland passed away in Colorado Springs, Co on. Sept. 21. Mel was a native of Cololorado Springs and a well known historian, especially known for his passion about the Colorado Midland and Midland Terminal railroads, and the author of books about both railroads. He taught in the Colorado Springs school system and after retirement served for many years as a conductor on the Manitou and Pikes Peak RR. To those of us who were fascinated by the Cripple Creek railroads, he was a treasure trove of knowledge and always willing to share.
