Juneau Porter

Scroll down on the page below for a tiny Porter 0-4-0T displayed at Juneau, Alaska. Was apparently found abandoned. I haven't seen this one before.

I'm pretty sure that the locomotive in the link below is the one in Steve's photo, from before it was restored.

No, the Kensington Mine locomotive is an H.K. Porter from 1883, and is still on display at Miner's Plaza, Downtown Juneau, AK. It is also pictured on my "Surviving World Steam Locomotive" CD-ROM.

The one at Fairbanks is H.K. Porter 1972/1899.

Doug is correct. This is one of 7 surviving Yukon mining railway Porters imported into the Yukon on the WP&YR in ca.1903. They were used in mines around Dawson City. Steve's webpage is a bit incorrect on the pre Fairbanks history. This data is from Eric Johnson's "Bonanza Narrow Gauge Railway"

Take a look at the cylinder saddle, it looks like it was fabricated for display. I don't think that one is going to run without a major cash infusion.

"Narrow Gauge and Short Line Gazette" had a write-up on the NAT&T Co. sometime in '02 or '03. Interesting little railroad - the line was about 1.75 miles long on a nearly-continuous 6% grade. No air on the lokie either, they pushed empty skips up the hill and came down on the engine's armstrong brake with miners riding some of the skips to run the hand brakes........real he-man railroading.......

Mr. Hefner is indeed correct, and I'm in error. Steve Barry photographed that little critter in 2001, and it clearly wasn't in two places at once. I've added it to our database as well, with Steve's picture to illustrate it, with his permission.
