Former Oregon American Lumber 2-6-2 105 in better days, when it was operated on the Vernonia, South Park & Pacific, a former SP&S branch. The engine now lies derelict and partly dismantled in southern Oregon and I'm told the branch is long dismantled and overgrown.

When in use on the White Mountain Scenic in AZ, 1960s. Today it is derelict also, keeping OA 105 company in Oregon.

Are these some of Fred Kepner's [sp?] "collection??"

The Sierra #36 operated on the Wasatch Mountain Railway (and later, Deer Creek Scenic -- all otherwise known as the "Heber Creeper") in Utah from 1976 until September 1983. Fred Kepner purchased the locomotive from Reed Hatch (pictured in the White Mountain photo) in 1987 or 1988, and moved the locomotive (along with Santa Maria Valley #100) by truck, from Heber City to the S.P. backshop facility in Ogden. When that facility was razed in 1999, Mr. Kepner moved both locomotives to Oregon via flatcar. When approached by the Heber Valley Railroad numerous times regarding purchase and return to service (for one or both locomotives) in Heber, Fred would not entertain any offers. We subsequently changed our focus toward acquiring the Great Western #75 collection in Hudson, Colorado. Both locomotives #36 and #100 are/were fine pieces of equipment and provided excellent service on our railroad. Unfortunately, their future is questionable.

The #34 is also the property of Fred Kepner, but it is stored inside the Jamestown, CA roundhouse. I hear that California State Parks would dearly love the #34 back, but they are getting the same response that the Heber Valley got.
