The N&W bought/built 2-8-8-2s over a period of 42 years.

The first were Class Y-1 #s 995-999

Engine Weight:400,000
Weight On Drivers:370,000
Tractive Effort:66,892 Compound & 83,615 Simple
Cylinders:24-1/2x30 High Press & 39x30 Low Press
Drivers:56
Pressure:200psi
Years built:1910

and the last were Class Y6b #s 2171-2200

Engine Weight:582,900 * SEE NOTE BELOW
Weight On Drivers:522,850 * SEE NOTE BELOW
Tractive Effort:126,838 compound & 152,206 simple
Cylinders:25x32 High Press & 39x32 Low Press
Drivers:58in
Pressure:300psi
Years built:1948 thru 1952

*Engine weight later increased to 611,520
*Weight on drivers later increased to 548,500

So as you can see it's almost like comparing apples and oranges. The Y-1 of 1910 was a world away from the Y-6b of 1952.
