I'm looking for information on the Memphis Street Railway. This system is long gone and nearly forgotten; I know of no books that have been published on it, and virtually no equipment was saved from it.

I recently found an exception - possibly the sole exception - to this last statement. At the City Museum in Tupelo, Mississippi is the body of a former Memphis streetcar that was converted to a hamburger stand after the street railway was abandoned. I have been in contact with the museum's director, Alicia Milstead, but they have little info on the car's history prior to its food service days. She says that the car might be #30, but isn't sure.

I have no idea whether or not #30 is a logical number for the Memphis system or, if there really was a Memphis #30, who built it or when. If anyone can offer any information regarding the Memphis Street Railway - whether it directly involves this particular car or not - I would be interested to know.

Check with Ben Minnich in Perris, Ca. as he has known this car for about 9 years. I think the number was 630. There is another near Nashville in a house - ask Ben. There was one in the northern boot area of Ark and two more in West Memphis but all have been destroyed before we heard of them. Ben's phone number is 909.657.5744.
