The Society for the Preservation of Carter Railroad Resouces is hosting its annual Railfair this weekend in Fremont California.

Activities include steam train rides, horse drawn train rides, maybe a gas critter or two, along with speeders, pump cars, a Hobo sign hunt for kids, Steam tractor rides, animals to visit, a 1857 historic house, along with railroad displays, public displays of railroad car restoration, presented both as ongoing projects and as living history.

Thanks to the National Narrow Gauge Convention we have lots of railfan visitors to meet, including author Bruce Mac Gregor, and narrow gauge modeler Boone Morrison.

A flyer can be found at: http://www.spcrr.org/PDFs/RailfairFlyer2004v2.pdf

I went over to the Railfair at Ardenwood in 2001. I was volunteering at the Los Gatos Museum, which unfortunately I only had time to do once. A rep from SPCRR came in with fliers and I chatted with them for a few minutes and saw “Deannaâ€

Randy Hees,

As a serious preservationist during your institution's event this Labor Day weekend, did the institution include any mention of the significance of Labor Day to rail history?

We didn't this year, but in the past we have included a re-enactment of the 1894 ARU strike. I wore my ARU button durring the event.

Randy Hess,

The fact that your institution at one time did infact recreate the Pullman strike and its significance to Labor Day weekend is to be commented!

But, every Labor Day should yield a 30 second narrative about this holiday's creation.

I'd appreciate your comments on the Teamsters short tidbit on the creation of Labor Day in a previous post.
