Post subject: Japanese Bullet Train Cab Car Preserved
PostPosted: Sun Apr 15, 2001 2:10 am

"The Railway Magazine," from the UK, mentions that Japan Railways refurbished and donated a series 0 (first generation 1964 design) bullet train cab car no. 22-141 to the national railway museum in York (p. 11). Would it be appropriate to lobby to preserve one here as well, considering the affect that these trains have had on late 20th century rail planning?

It would indeed be nice to be able to see how the Japanese interpreted this technology, especially to look for traces of the influence of EARLY-20th century thinking on the 1964 bullet trains. It's not widely known, but the Japanese National Railways sent a delegation to this country while they were developing the shinkansen. Among other things, they looked at the North Shore Electroliner and, I believe, the PRR electrification. Today, it is easy to forget that high-speed trains did not originate with JNR or SNCF.
