I remember, at one time, a large steam locomotive sat on a park hill off of Hwy 51 in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. I would like to know if it still remains there or what happened to it.I don't have any idea what model steam engine it was or what railroad it once belonged to. I do remember, however, that it seemed to be pretty good sized. If anyone out there can answer any of these questions, I would be very grateful.

Hi Angie,
Is this the one you're thinking of? It's Soo Line 4-6-2 no. 2713.

I believe that it has been at least repainted if not cosmetically restored recently and is ont in the terrible state as it was pictured in the above post.

A sister Soo Line 4-6-2 in Galdstone, Michigan was recently cosmetically restored as well.

Thanks for the info! If you have a more recent photo of 2713 (or no. 730 in Gladstone), I'd love to see it.

I saw 2713 last May and a guy was working on her. He didn't seem to know much about the engine, but he seemed like he was doing a lot of work to find out how he should go about the cosemetic restoration.

I was at the engine last September. She looked about the same as in the above photo. Nothing that would classify as a restoration had been done at that time, but the note on the display that stated one was being planned was still there. I remember it being there for a few years. I recall that they exchanged some damaged parts from the 2719 after the collision on the Wisconsin Central two years ago. There was a collection box there, and I gave my son some cash to put into it. The engine needs some TLC, but it is not as bad as some park engines I have seen. The Wisconsin Central yard and shops are directly behind the locomotive, so I would imagine that there are at least some folks in the area with the knowledge of the engine assist in it's preservation.
