Anybody got a decent rate on it lately? I'm glad to say that NCTM stockpiled a while back so we didn't see the big jumps of last year, but now it's time to restock.Best to all! Come visit! Jim

Don't bet on Santa with the coal, I asked my four year old niece this past December if she was getting coal in her Christmas stocking. Her reply: "What's that????

Jim, you can be sure that the prices will be higher. Remember the bulk of the coal reserves were purchased by the major oil companies many years ago. When oil goes up, so does coal. Try to get the high btu, low ash coal if possible. It is more expensive, but you get less clinkers and a good even fire. I cannot remember the source at this time, but I can find out if you need it.

Just returned from a local school board meeting at which they approved the sole bid for anthracite coal at $123 a ton delivered for 500 tons more or less. Last year's price for the same typ of coal from the same dealer was $104. The price incease was based in part on a guarantee of availability from the dealer.

A friend of mine at the Valley Railroad in Essex,CT told me a couple months ago that it's not a matter of affording it, but getting your hands on it at all. Much of the good stuff they use - Pocahontas - has been presold to China. What they have been burning is less than ideal - very dusty....
