In the recent discussion about the oldest locomotive there is a mention of B&O 1 aka "John Hancock", a locomotive Carillon Park. When I went to steamlocomotive.info I located a picture (photo credit: Wayne York) of the engine and note what appears to be an open car in the background. I know that Carillon Park has an interurban, but was not aware that they have a second streetcar. Frank Hick's database only mentions the interurban. So what is the vehicle pictured in the background?WesleyImage

According to Andrew Young's excellent 1997 book "Veteran & Vintage Transit" it's Sao Paulo, Brazil open car #471, a 1913 Brill 11-bench single-trucker. I haven't been to Carillon Park myself but V&VT suggests the car has been painted up as Dayton City Railway #123. Its South American origin means it falls outside the scope of my database.

Thanks, Frank. I knew it wasn't a Rio car, so thought it might be a replica. Keep up the good work with the database!Wesley

Thanks! An update to the Preserved Electric Cars website should be coming soon; Jeff has been working on a project to expand the amount of information available through the website and has also been working on potential ways to change the presentation format. Once the improvements are online we'll be sure to post a notice on RyPN.
