Not sure if this link has been posted before, but it has many, many photos documenting the restoration of a Western Pacific F7A that was recently returned to service in California. Lots of detail if you're interested in restoring an F unit - it involves much more than a paint job..http://www.trainweb.org/wp918d/work_update.htm

The WP 918 reminds me of some hard-won knowledge as follows:When one decides to perform an operational restoration on a locomotive, one of the most worthwhile repairs (before the finish paint) is to completely overhaul the sanding system, i.e., NEW sand traps, rebuilt relay valves, clean and re-work sandboxes and associated piping, etc. While the labor component may be significant, the parts involved are relatively inexpensive.Dave
