Pullman to be scrapped *PIC*

These linked photos was posted to George Elwood's site: "Erie Lackawanna and other Fallen Flag and Shortline Railroad Photos" with the photo credit going to Gary Steubben. The caption states that it was taken at the New Hope & Ivyland RR on July, 27.

Does anybody have information on the history of the car, (of both its Pullman and Post Pullman careers) and whether or not it has been scrapped yet? From this photo it does not appear to be in much worse condition than Pullmans (heavyweight or lightweight) in the collections of other museums.

Coupled to the previously pictured Pullman is this Baggage/RPO, with the reporting marks & number: WCRL 72. Does anybody know its history? Is it also heading for scrap?

I think that Bagg-RPO is the old CNJ car that was at New Hope station for years. It is a Bethlehem Steel-Harlan & Hollingsworth car, built about 1916 in Wilmington, Del. Shure would be an appropriate car for the NJ museum at Phiilipsburg-- those cars were regulars on the Jersey City to Wilkes-Barre CNJ trains.

Is NHIR "cleaning house" of all the old stuff laying around the yard?

Could this car be an ex-LIRR parlor car? Note what seems to be an electric marker light mounted on the end sheet. Some of the LIRR cars had those added in the mid-60s. The LIRR heavyweight parlor fleet of almost 50 cars was mostly ex-PRR, and operated intact right up to about 1968-70. At that time, LIRR started buying surplus lightweight sleepers, primarily PC cars, for parlor car service.

Most of the heavyweights were scrapped in the early 70s, and the lightweight sleepers met the same fate at the end of the 70s.

Its pretty sd to see a car like this being sent off to scrap. I know you can't save every one, but this car would sure seem to be restorable. Hopefully the scrap dealer will realise that it is worth more than scrap and find a good home for it.

This car is NOT being scraped. It was leased by the New hope & Ivyland
about a year ago for restoration as a dinning car. The car is owned by
the Black River & Western Railroad in New Jersey.

The baggage car you see here in Red is also NOT being scrapped. It was the New Hope & Ivyland's gift shop/ticket office/storage for many years before new management purchased the railroad in the early 1990's. It formerly sat adjacent to the station in New Hope. I believe that the car is/was owned by the New Hope Steam Railway, a volunteer organizztion formerly based at the NH&I. When the Steam Railway disbanded several years ago the car was sold or donated to the West Chester Railway, however, it has yet to be moved there. Currently the car sits on the storage track just north of New Hope Station in need of much repair while it awaits transportation to West Chester.

That is exactly correct.....read my previous post. Black River & Western purcahsed the car before it was going to be scrapped and then leased it to the NH&I.
