With summer behind us, it is a good time to look at the sucesses many groups have had bringing back long cold steam locomotives.

So, let's list them. How many locomotives have steamed this year after missing at least all of last year (and more)?

That's 9 so far. Not bad, and I am sure there are more...

Reader RR returned ex WT Carter mogul #2 to service for use in the film" there will be blood,", which was shot on the South Orient RR near Marfa, Tx.

OERM's VC2 came back online in April

Next operation date is Sept. 16 if anyone is going to be in Southern California. I know its not the 261 or a QJ, but its steam.

It's pretty unknown but an individual just got a Baldwin 0-4-0T that had been in storage for decades (I think on the Arcade & Attica) operating last weekend. It was front page news on the 'Dunkirk (NY) Observer'. They have an online edition but the story isn't in it.

It looks like a wet cat - it's a saddeltanker minus the saddletank at the moment. But she's throwing smoke and steam again.

Don't forget White Mountain Central RR (former EB&L) Climax #6. Not only is this engine back operating, but now with a brand spanking new boiler !!

I just asked about this last night (the thread is down a bit on this board) This engine was not stored at the Arcade & Attica, the only tank engine there was the fireless cooker that is now at the Erie County Farigrounds (America's Fair - whatever its called now). Is there any way you could post the picture or article from the paper??? What info did the article have? Are there any plans for the future of this engine??

The guy that owns it is Scott Simmons (sp?), local to Dunkirk. It's not on the online version of the paper. I know they said it was a Baldwin, the photos showed it moving, and it was minus the saddletank with some kind of makeshift tender behind it.

This is 'ground zero' at the moment for the Americas Most Wanted search for Ralph (Bucky) Phillips with over 500 police chasing him in the Dunkirk area and south here to PA, shots fired this morning again. It's a little hard to bump that one off of the webpage unless it would explode and take Bucky with it....

I saw smoke rising from the roundhouse in Savannah yesterday - so my guess is little GOAT is back under steam tests after Form 4 and other work.

Is this the engine that was purchased from a junk yard in Virginia and mentioned in an earlier thread about the Flagg engine?

The Greenfield Village 4-4-0 Edison was placed back in service earlier this year after having an entire brand new cylinder installed.

The B&O Museum's 0-4-0T #4 was returned to service this year following repairs from the damage she received as a result of the roof collapse on February 16, 2003.

Ohio Central #1293 had a fairly major overhaul including major firebox work and driver work as well as many other needed projects. She had been cold since 2004 and was brought back to run the NRHS convention this summer. OHCR #33 will be back out of the shops next month as well, even though it does not fit the parameters of your poll since she ran a bit last year, but it will be nice to have two big steamers back out on the railroad.
