ALCO S2 to be scraped

I learned this week that the Alco S2 that we used on the Fayette Central RR in Uniontown Pa. is going to be scraped. Unable to find anyone with the funds to
give it a new home. Sad to see it go, I had some good times running it.

is it still in the same condition? if so it's a dang shame no one can get it.

If it's an operable loco, even an oddball with friction bearings has some resale value on the used market. What are the circumstances that have led to the decision to scrap? Freeze damage? Time deadline? Will they do the smart thing and call one of the specific scrappers (like one based out of Hagerstown, Md.) that is shrewd enough to figure out how to part out vintage locos like this?

I too, feel there is more to this story. Has anyone tried the free listings at Railswap? Or gotten ahold of Ozark Mountain, even though they are for pay maybe a deal can be reached.

You mean the same shrewd folks that destroyed the 2 MRS1s at the Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum in 2010?

If the locomotive is operable and an ALCO to boot, I can't quite wrap my mind around this. There has to be more to the story.

Is the unit actually Baltimore & Ohio #9061, or just painted as such?

It is a former RF&P locomotive, number 65 I think, but am not sure about it.

How much do they expect to net from scrapping the Alco? What about the rest of the equipment? RDC and open window coaches?

A quick search on bing brings up a local news story that says they have lost their track lease. Apparently the owner of their tracks sold to another operation who feels the tourist operation will be too much of a liability......

The Fayette Central tourist operation shut down in December 2012. More likely, it was the business where they stored the equipment that changed ownership and wants the equipment moved out..

The RDC was returned to the B&O Museum at least one year before the shutdown.

Either way I wonder, what are they asking for the equipment? Perhaps a deal could be made.....depending, of course, on how soon the scrapping is due to happen.....

It was painted PRR 5656 when I first saw it parked in downtown Uniontown about 5-6 years ago.
