Does anyone know of any NYO&W locomotives or rolling stock?

There are very few remaining pieces from the NYO&W and with only about two places I know has anything from that road, I was wondering if any of you guys know anything that is in need of a home.

The only NYO&W pieces I know of are the cabooses at the Pennsylvnia Trolley Museum and the Connecticut Trolley Museum. I suggest that you contact these organizations for more information.

Hi,
The Southeastern Railroad Museum has an Old Woman GE 44-tonner. It was last used on the Hartwell Railroad here in Georgia. Hartwell gave two 44-tonners to the SERM - only one was ex-NYO&W.
Last I heard, both 44-tonners were stored operational. They became stand by when the CofG GP9 (?) and the Southern SW(?) were donated.

O&W 44-tonner No. 105 was on the Southern Railroad of New Jersey; not sure where it is now. It had been painted in the gray, yellow, and orange scheme. NW2 No. 116 was part of the Walter Rich estate and is now on the Delaware & Ulster in New York, along with an O&W business car (stored in a shed) and a 4-wheel caboose.

We have NYO&W 104, a 44 tonner built in 1941, at the Southeastern Railway Museum. It was sold to the Hartwell Railway at some point and became their #5. It is currently on static display. The rear engine, which was replaced at some point by the Hartwell, is serviceable. The front engine has fairly serious issues.

There is a chance that NYO&W caboose 8323 at Pennsylvania Trolley Museum might be available to a new home. One that puts the car in dry storage. Wooden cars do not last when kept outdoors. Contact PTM if you have interest. (www.pa-trolley.org)

Don't forget the WARWICK, NYO&W Car #30, "somewhere East of Sidney".

Could you define serious issues with the motor? Also, does anyone have more specific location on #30, The Warwick? If anyone is affiliated with the Pennsylvania trolley museum, do you think they would be receptive to a caboose trade?

When dealing with diesel-electric locomotives, it's important to distinguish between the engine (the internal-combustion thingy) and the electric motor (the thing that makes the wheels turn).

Brother Durden remarked about the engine. The odds are fairly high that the issues involved are indirectly covered in this thread from a couple years ago, starting more specifically midway down Page 2: www.rypn.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=34023

The Pennsylvania Trolley Museum would have no interest in a caboose trade. We are trying to focus our collection efforts on our mission, which is traction preservation.

O&W 105 (GE 44-ton) is at Winslow Junction as of less than 1 year ago.

NYO&W caboose 8301 is privately-owned and nicely restored, in a back yard near Deep River, Conn. This car had a previous private owner, who kept the car at Valley Railroad in Essex. 8301 was moved to the current site about 25 years ago.

The car was bought by LIRR in 1957, after the O&W's demise, was sold by LIRR to Empire State Railway Museum about 1962, and moved to ESRM's operation at Middletown, NY on the M&NJ. 8301 spent the next 8 years there, just a few feet from the NYO&W's abandoned mainline ROW through Middletown (NYO&W's home town). Ironic, eh?

Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania has an O&W Fairmont speeder in the collection. Currently stored off exhibit in a replica section gang shed.

It is getting water into the lube oil. This has been a somewhat cyclical occurrence with the prime mover in question. I now believe that there is a fissure in one of the liners.

Either way, it needs new pistons and liners as they're all pretty tired. We weren't about to spend the material cost to do this on an engine that's becoming harder and harder for which to find parts. It would be nice to find a nice running take-out D17000 and drop it in, but I'm not holding my breath on that one, either.

I would also mention that we have a second piece of NYO&W equipment at the SRM. The tender behind S&A 4-6-2 750 came from behind an O&W 4-8-2 which the S&A had purchased second-hand.
