On April 7, 2022, the "Antiques" section of Sacramento's Craigslist included an offer for two (2) wood passenger cars for sale.

Sacramento Craigslist: https://sacramento.craigslist.org/atq/d ... 43209.html

Horseshoe Bend, Idaho is 27 miles north of Boise.

I have no personal interest in this offer. This offer was posted here on the chance that a visitor to this forum may be interested.

I'd question how you could even move them without having them come apart.
That's a lot of money for something that far decayed. That and no trucks either.

Obviously, the asking price for such derelict cars seems extreme. That said, should a visitor to this forum be interested, Ozark Mountain Railcar offers one set of turn-of-the-century passenger car trucks for sale:

When does a railroad car stop being a railroad car?

To me, the photos appear to show a single car that is split in the middle. (Perhaps the car had been split into two halves for movement to the site?)

Just put a match to it and give it a proper send off.

Hmm...
Aside from the rather high price vs poor condition....
It's actually one car, cut in half....
Was it part of Lincoln's funeral train or something? That might be why they think it's so valuable....

I suspect it's the classic "Antiques Roadshow/American Pickers/Pawn Stars" syndrome at work.

No, but it possibly carried passengers that boarded the Titanic...

(Sarcasm BTW) See: viewtopic.php?t=45510&p=322968

In all honesty though, it's rare i say this about a piece of equipment because of the "Hail Marys" we now see becoming more common today, but i see absolutely NOTHING that can be salvaged from this except for maybe a study of the surviving car body designs but even then, it looks mangled. Either let mother nature take back what's hers or torch it. That 10,000 dollars can go toward a lot better causes than a bunch of rotted and mangled wood.

Agree the cars are toast. Very little to save unless you wanted the history of the car? The lamp vents on roof would be the only thing I see to be saved. Ya I think a nice funeral fire would be best or as suggested let mother nature do the resolving. Regards, John.

Strip the car of any remaining hardware--roof vents, window pulls or handles, door hardware, wood trim etc. Then offer the hardware to anyone who needs it by listing the items to the HeritageRail Alliance's parts group. Unless, of course, the "strippers" can use the hardware themselves. Then let nature take its inevitable course or torch the poor car.

Thanks, and stay safe.

This would make lovely lawn art. I would easily pay 5,000 if it was delivered to my property. Drive the local government nuts, call it lawn art. Maybe make them into chicken coops, only a few rolls of chicken wire and some staples.

Seriously I think they are very pleasant to look at. Jack them up flat on some timbers and use them as an open air gazebo. A few tables and some chairs. But I like old tractors as lawn art. Too bad they are so far away.

I was thinking they would make good chicken coops too but I’m a little worried they would be unsafe for the chickens!

I thought I saw another part of this ghost train.

Looks like something from a Ghost Train theme park.
