Looks like they'll be selling most of the railroad memorabilia from the Issac Walton Inn.

Why would you buy a place with all that character and then get rid of the character?

Quoting a FB Post
"Big announcement!
It is my honor and absolute privilege to be representing the iconic, historic, and regional landmark important for so many reasons! Attics of my Life will be liquidating treasures of the Issac Walton Inn!
Many of you may already know a stellar company bought the property and will be going through some renovations/redesign/rebrand! Hey change is inevitable right?
Most of of the interior decor, rooms, bar, lobby, railroad memoribilia will be up for grabs!
Official event announcements coming soon!
Save the date!
1 day only
June 17th!"

To be clear, just passing this along. I am not, in any way, affiliated with the sale, the sellers or anything else. I've stayed there one weekend, that's as connected as I get. :)

Not surprising, last fall my brother sold our famly's resort that we operated since 1947. The new owners immediately closed it down, remodeled the 1968 built motel rooms to a trendy look by painting the natural real wood walls grey, and put on a black metal roof and painted the natural redwood exterior dark green. Now they are planning on tearing down the 10year old vacation cabins and putting in some "Ikea-designed" "alpine cabins"--oh and the kicked out all the mobile home owners and will replace most of them with Airstream trailers.
All the while touting the "History" of the place.

The static Airstream thing is apparently called "glamping" (for glamorous camping I guess). It has driven up the price of used Airstreams. My dad asked me to look on the internet for a used Airstream last year thinking I could find him a bargain and there was no such thing.

Mods, feel free to correct it. I was pretty sure it was Izaak, but I copied what the press release and figured I was remembering it incorrectly.

The original post even misspelled the Izaac Walton Inn, as seen in the quote.

Just in case you were searching for more details.

It will be interesting to see if the F45 locomotive bedroom gets included.

Maybe the best that can be said is that the new owners aren't throwing all the railroad collectables in the dumpster.

I have been house shopping for a pending retirement back in my home town of Pittsburgh.... very disappointed to find all the interesting old houses in the walk and transit friendly area seem to have been painted gray inside and white outside (even brick) the interior natural wood painted bright white and gray laminate floor installed covering the natural wood floors. There's one really active flipper with one false esthetic at work or everybody in the business does the same thing as all the others. Go figure.....

But, but, but... I had been recently assured - in print and online - that there was going to be careful conservatorship and respect for the railroad background WRT this property.

I'm shocked. Shocked, I tell you!

Ah, the irony of correcting his spelling, when the man's name is spelled Isaak.
(As, I believe, it is for the Inn, and the road it's located on.)

If you're going to be a spelling or grammar snob on a preservation board, at least have the grace to get the spelling or grammar right.

The OP on Facebook has been to the Inn quite a bit, knows it well - and knows the spelling is with a 'K' - was a simple autocorrect issue, as they've had to explain over and over to all the "angry" commenters.

I'm glad my family and I were able to stay there last year before the new owners destroy the character of the hotel. If they wanted a new hotel without character they should have just built a new one. Guess we won't bother going back.

Gray interiors and white exteriors have been a fad for several years now - just go watch HGTV or look at a designer magazine. Painting over brick and wood is also a fad - think IKEA particle board and fake brick walls that you see advertised on TV.

Quote:
"Hung [sic] by your own petard."

You are showing yet more ignorance of the classics you claim to be commenting about... 'the enginer hoist with his own petard' indeed.

You demonstrate not only that you don't know your Shakespeare but that you have no idea what the expression means.

Now, how I am supposed to be 'hoist with my own petard' here, I don't quite understand. I corrected your misspelling... and, unfortunately, the defense that 'someone on Facebook had a typo' fell to the ground when you yourself failed to correct it... in your own post... correcting someone else. I'm interested to see how you, to invoke Walton's favorite pastime, try to wriggle off the hook on that point. Editing on the sly after the fact, even if you use boldface, doesn't fix the original error...

On the other hand, as I believe they said in Bored of the Rings: "All's well that ends."

Do better next time. Or at least try. Being trying isn't the same thing.

Meanwhile... I, too, tremble for the F45, although if all they do is redecorate the interior, it would mean little if anything to 'railroad preservation'

Well, since this has just descended to personal one-upmanship, I'll just say f*ck it, and note the original Facebook posts announcing the coming auction have been deleted.

Hope you guys learn the correct spelling, if you're looking for more info.
