SRR 89 ?

I'm thinking about making the trek to Strasburg on Friday. Does anyone know for sure if 89 will be running? Thanks in advance.

I just called their general number and the person answering said it will be 89 on Friday and Saturday. That source has been useful in the past but not perfect.

I heard that 90 will be on the Halloween Train Friday night which means it's running during the day probably instead of 89. 89 is running today and tomorrow but won't be running weekends.

Sounds like you got better information than I was able to. Do you have a better number to call than the general number in the book, or someone to ask for?

Off topic, but I was finally able to get this off my digital camera (which, having sat in a pool of spilled coffee last Friday, gave the distinct impression of dying on me). Think Belleville or Trenton Junction, ON, in 1952.

Whoever called Strasburg a "time machine" in the picture thread was pretty close.

Dave, I wouldn't hesitate to call the office and ask. I'm sure they'll help if they can, and I'm sure you won't be the only person calling.

A Strasburg employee said when I stopped by today that they are not going to run 89 on the weekends. Only Mon-Thurs, since they are trying to get more riders on the weekdays and she might be a magnet for the railfan crowd to come out and give them some additional business. But get out soon. The mgt. doesn't like the centered headlight look and have threatened to change her back soon. Also 31 is almost done her annual and may be back in service soon. Get your 89 pics while you still can. I was up the other day. She is turned back facing west. It would be have been cool to see her on the turntable!

Fred, I'm afraid that contradicts everything Linn Moedinger has said to me in recent months. My original proposal to them was for a temporary cosmetic job (using 31's front end), and it was the railroad's decision to dig out 89's jewelry and make the change "permanent." I've been told several times that 89 will look like this for "a couple of years."

That said, I did hear that a couple of people thought it looked "odd," and it's true that CN's small power look won't win and beauty contests, but I heard no talk in three days on the property last week of changing it back.

High praise indeed, Richard (and the others).

I should probably keep my mouth shut, but this was just a spur-of-the-moment grab shot - Rick Ahern and I had been shooting some glint shots a few minutes earlier on the fireman's side with "real" cameras, and this is the only digital shot I took during the event.

I get lucky sometimes, I guess.

Now, if those mailers will hurry up and get here so I can send off the Kodachrome . . .
