Unappreciative, arrogant, rude...just 3 of the words I would choose to use concerning the comments made by some individuals on the site. You guys yet again confirm the oddity of being a "GERF" (Glassy Eyed Rail Fan). You also confirm why I am embarrassed to tell many outside my family that I enjoy railroad history.

You do not appreciate that Norfolk Southern has done something to go out of their way presenting something special to fans, clients, and employees alike. You have taken for granted that they do not need OCS trains, 21st Century Steam, or a Heritage Fleet of locomotives to continue providing freight services. The leadership at NS is putting on a unique show for us all. To that I say, THANK YOU NORFOLK SOUTHERN!

You are arrogant. Railroads are huge businesses with a lot great history. Who are you to tell any company what to do and how to do it? Who cares if the color is off a bit? I don't. I can look back at any of my personal photos of railroad equipment and see differences picture to picture. Depending on the camera, the lighting, the angle, etc locomotives and cars can look like they are three different shades of colors...or more. Get real...it just doesn't matter!

I don't even need to write about the rudeness many of you exhibit. You want people to do your bidding so you can snap a picture. You want the railroad to do this, that, and the other for you. You want everyone to do more for you, you, you. Why don't you try writing a check to a museum or historical society? If you are snapping pictures without giving back, you are taking everything, but giving nothing in return.

The next time you are down at the crossing waiting for #12345 to come rolling thru...I will be the one standing there smiling, drinking a soft drink...and not moving for your picture. I will be enjoying the moment and taking it all in for that moment. I am glad I grew up to be the anti-railfan....love my hobby...have a great personality...wear in-style clothes...cool hair...cool ride...no camera...I just love trains.

Thank you again Norfolk Southern...the engines all look amazing and your vision of what "could-have-been" is AWESOME!

Well said, IC382.

On other threads which have the same commonality, I still believe if we do not include everyone in the railfan tent (and not the GERFS monopoly), this hobby will disappear in the next fifty years.

That means the attitude of many in the hobby needs to change. Don't think that every picture you take will be published in Trains, Railfan & Railroad, etc., or be the author of numerous books. Be courteous!

And too few in the hobby pony up funds for a project, but dictate how a project should be done (ala the NS engines, museums, etc.) with no skin in the game. Its easier to dream something happening than to actually make something happen. That too, is another GERF trait. Don't make "points" on a webpage, make it happen!

So kudos to Wick Moorman and his staff for making the retro paint schemes happen, the steam specials, and embracing their history.

ok, this is really getting ridiculous..
because NO one is saying these things!
There might have been one or two actual, genuine complaints about the paint schemes, in random forums out on the internet somewhere, then about 10,000 posts from people complaining about those 2 posts..people keep going WAY overboard about these mythical complainers..Half the posts in this thread are from people complaining about the complainers, and ZERO posts in this thread are actual complaints about the paint schemes!
let it go people..no one is actually complaining about the paint schemes..
its really getting annoying..you are endlessly responding to something that barely exists..its WAY out of proportion to the actual issue..

Not one single person on *this* site has said anything even remotely unappreciative, arrogant, or rude..why do people keep harping on this issue? where is it coming from? I don't think I have actually seen one genuine complaint about the paint schemes..anywhere..but I have seen TONS of complaints about the mythical complainers..its very weird..

Enough, already. This thread is being locked. Want to revisit the topic? Do it elsewhere. Not here.
