This is a possibility; another is the possibility of being mounted on a separate piece of display track, still under the shed roof somewhere. If Harrisburg does get a light-rail system as the local transit agency is now in the early stages of promoting, then platform space will be at a premium.

Don't know. NRHS Harrisburg Chapter owns the tower and the immediate ground surrounding it, but it's a small plot. Unless I'm mistaken, the land isn't big enough to park a G on even if a track would/could be laid.

No, the chapter owns that. The G cost something less than $50,000 to restore cosmetically when all program costs were figured in. With that magnitude, public funding became desirable and necessary. That's where the state grant came in, and thus where state ownership came into the picture. The PRR N6B cabin car restoration project was mostly sweat equity, with about only $2,600 in direct cash outlay. Big difference.

4909 (Amtrak 4932) has reportedly been sold to
the Henry Ford Museum for restoration and preservation. That's one out of the bullet's path. 4909 had been largely scraped and primed by a party that planned to take it to CT a couple years ago, but they suddenly disappeared without a trace.

Ummmm, already has. About 5 years ago (I think-- I'm a bit fuzzy on the timeframe) one of the displays in the main hall was about the Federal Express wreck.

The GG1s are in Cooperstown Junction, not Cooperstown. Why did Amtrak re-number these engines?

Initially, Amtrak numbered all their locomotives below 1000 so they numbered the G's from 900 to 929. Some (e.g. 4892) were in the 4800's so it wasn't a simple "drop the lead 4" operation but a complete renumbering. They leased 10 more from PC which were renumbered 4930 to 4939 so as not to share the last 3 digits with the AmMotors. Later Amtrak bought the 10 PC motors which stayed numbered 4930-4939. BTW 4935 was not renumbered.

Yes, I'm ready to scrap a GG-1. There are way too many of them around anyway. There's a website that lists about 20 GG-1 in existence. People should focus on something better like getting one of those big PRR steamers running at RRMPA. Wouldn't that be nice?

Perhaps- but its not in their mission. Though I'd love to see #460 operating. There's hot engines right across the street anyways. Want to see PRR steam? Have to wait for the 0-4-0 and #1361 to be finished.

Are you refering to the Reading 0-4-0? It looks like PRR #94 is on permanent display at the museum.

0-6-0 at Williams Grove.
