Some notes on the previous notes: (When will it end?)

I hadn't heard of Fischer's CNJ steam book. Can anyone give more details -- i.e., is it a book with full text and all-time roster, or one of those several-hundred-thousand pictorials? Publisher? Price? Thanks for any info.

According to Warren Crater's CNJ roster book, the 592 went through two rebuildings. It was originally built by Brooks 9/01 (as the 592) with 20.5x26" cylinders and 85" drivers, and in 1903 was classed as P5 as part of CNJ's general reclassification scheme. Elizabethport shop rebuilt it with 79" drivers 6/13, retaining the P5 classification, but in 11/19 it went back to the shop to get 22x26" cylinders and a superheater, and emerged as a P6s.

This class definitely saw Royal Blue Line service on at least some occasions, and I suspect they were often used in the highly competitive JC-Phila. service (along with the Reading's high-wheeled Atlantics) as much as anywhere else. A C. B. Chaney photo, reproduced on p. 110 of the book "Royal Blue Line" shows the 595 in action with a B&O train at Aldene in 1916.
