I now understand the Ohio River Museum was complately flooded out on its bottom floor in Marietta as well. Sadly, they have been fighting extreme budget cuts, and had been open only on weekends for most of the summer, when a civic group steped in to help pay with getting them afford staying open during the week --- and now this.

Shot below of the waters surrounding the museum, shown center of the photograph just to left of the bridge --- note river boat in their "front yard"

I was down in the Pittsburgh area yesterday - river still high but significantly down.

One of the hardest-hit areas was the Pine Creek area along the old B&O main line heading north out of the valley up through Aetna toward Evans City (now operated by AVR). The line follows the creek most of the way and was originally double tracked. Normally small Pine Creek turned into a torrent from Ivan, washing out businesses, homes, roads, and eroding a good portion of the railroad ballast off the line. It's fixable, certainly, but out of service for a while. Ever see an entire grade crossing cabinet completely washed off it's foundation and pushed downstream? That's the kind of force that valley saw, and the National Guard was still at Etna yesterday. The damage just wasn't from the water - it was from the acceleration of the flow and force down the valley.
