Forgive my ingorance, but what is NH&IR?

Yup, I know all about the stuff at the Colonie Shop. Considering the actions of a previous 'preservation entity', it would have been all but impossible to secure permission to salvage anything-let alone gain legal entrance to the building.

There is a yet another area not otherwise mentioned-which are personally-held collections of records relating to employment. I knew a man who had spent 40 plus years with a railway supply outfit-and had saved (along other things) copies of every trip report he ever filed. He had overseen the wholesale change in one type of railway technology to another-and as a result-had visited all corners of the globe. To the best of my knowledge, this stuff went into the trash when he passed on.

Point taken Dave, and that is most definitely the other side of the coin. Hardlythe case with the grants, as you well know --- those type grants are getting tougher to come by, even from the usual source, IMLS.

As always, your thinking a couple steps ahead of me, and outside the box.
