I keep coming back to the phrase, "... the subsequent demise of the M&H steam program ..." Can you clarify that?

On page 5 of the list there is a rather long thread covering this subject. It is titled "How To Destroy Your Operation". As far as I know nothing has changed. I am not sure how to do a link taking you to this thread.

The Durango and Silverton has at least 2 D&RGW Standard Gauge cars on narrow gauge trucks. These are/were the basis for the open cars on the Silverton trains, heavily modified of course. I guess these were left as reserves by the D&RGW in case the need ever arose to build more observation cars.

A couple of others that could come close:

Depending on what way you could look at it, and were willing to bar the fact it is Michigan, one could do one with the ex-D&RGW bobber and #464 at Huckelberry, if one were willing to do a short consist. The EB&T Hopper would have to be relettered, but it is " in the realm."

Come to think of it, SRI/ MSTRP could do it as well in Owosso, with some TLC and a lot of work, and it may be a bit short:
PM 2-8-4 #1225
PM Auto Box #72332
PM 40' Outside-Brace 88000 series car
PM A909
The series of Ann Arbor 40' foots that hang around the yard (there were 3 or four) plus the equipment in the wreck train outside St. Charles on TSBY (although may be gone now).
There used to be a tank car around there as well, don't know if it still is.

Ohio Central has done it, but I'm not sure if it would totally meet your criteria. True, on the steam end, they do not (to my knowledge) have correct cabeese for any of their big three: #6325, #1293, or now #33. Namely were talking a correct morency orange #77000-series wood GTW caboose; a hack of CP-heritage; or an ex-LS&I hack (In each case, they are definitely out there). On the freight car end, they can and have more than done it, with Montour hopper, PRR Box, the tank, and the AC&Y-painted car (although were attacked heavily for it). On the diesel side, they could do it and then some. There are quite a few other "period" cars around as well, but would take some serious effort to get them up and ready.
