Though it may seem premature and somewhat mercenary, it would be nice to put a succession plan in place for the locomotive. A buy-sell agreement would ensure Doyle's family of a firm market value for the locomotive. Several institutions might be considered viable suitors for such an agreement. CSRM, OERM, Niles Canyon, Portola (just in California alone). The way this would work is that the proposed buyer would insure Doyle with life insurance in the amount of the purchase. It is done all the time as a standard business arrangement. I cannot think of a better win-win for all parties involved.A single premium policy may be as cheap as $25,000, but I am not sure of the actual numbers

Not only is the idea premature, its not as you described legal in most ot all US states. Unless a museum has business dealings with an individual, it cannot purchase a plan on an individuals life due to lack of "insurable interest".

Don't worry, Doyle has a plan. All I can say is that it will not be scrapped so the preservation community doesn't have anything to worry about.Smokebox
