Richard,Again I have to disagree. The UP did run a fleet of Big Boys when it was the was to move freight tonnage. They did it when the necessary infrastructure for steam was in place. Today the UP still wants to make money, but they do it with the current technology of the Diesel-electric powered trains.I have to say that we will see less steam from them not more.One thing we can agree on is the G5. I am a Long Island native; I have watched the two Long Island engines stit in Parks, then get taken apart and now become the centerpiece of two railroad museums. I too hope you right in thinking that the money and people are in place to see them run again!Ted Miles

Park Engine 101 questions: Squeak-squeak-squeak-chuff? I assume the squeaking is from the valves the valves sliding in the (unlubricated) the cylinders. What is the chuff sound? Was the engine being towed?Wesley

Engine was being towed by 2 GP38's. The chuff or klunk, actually, is one of the side rod or main rod bearings as it comes around. Something is looser that it should be. Although many running engines will make that noise just not to the degree that 4023 is. I was "pacing" it along side.Squeak is the unlubricated cylinders. The pistons are still attached.
