Update Thurs 6/29: NYSW T&HS #142 and it's equipment has been moved from the quarry in Pohatcong, although now they feel the move may have been unnecessary. The area around Carpentersville Rd is flooded..

Well It looks like the 142 will not be meeting up with its submerged sister #141! However I'm sure it is better to be safe than sorry.

According to many internet list things are at a stand still in the Southern Tier of New York - This is a link to a news story about the stand still. http://www.pressconnects.com/apps/pbcs. ... 1/60629025
I'm sure because of the damage experienced in New York that the shock waves will be felt in areas not affected by the floods.

This now on the Adirondack Railroad website:

"Trains from Utica to Thendara have
been temporarily suspended until bridge
inspections can be preformed due
to the recent storms in the area."

We've heard of a couple smaller washouts; nothing catastrophic reported so far, but not all the track has been reviewed, either.

For those interested, check out the Flimsies to see some stories on the effects of the recent flooding on tourist lines here in the northeast. Some lines have been forced to cancel weekend excursions or temporarily close, so before visiting you may want to call up and confirm if your destination is open. Some may have been hit hard and will defiantly need support in the coming days and weeks.

Be sure to add any news items about any other cancellations and closers.

<Re: Adirondack Scenic RR
Track in service from Utica to Carter (6 mi. North of Thendara), and from Saranac Lake to Lake Placid - information from Saturday July 1st 2006.>

Let's take some time this summer to help out where we can in whatever way possible (time, money, materiel); there will be many opportunities. Hopefully the southern tier of NYS and the Catskills will pull through this, as will all the other operations (museums, tourist RRs). It may be bad at your place, but there are some (farmers, for example) who have it much worse.

Regards all,
Melanie

Waters got pretty high at Williams Grove, but 643 is on high enough ground that she was never at risk. The track was flooded out there in '72, and was rebuilt on higher ground, so the railroad itself was pretty safe as well.
