Wow, talk about a flashback!

I clearly remember the year of the relocation, as my dad and I went on trip through there in summer of 1986, and we made a point to stop at VMT/ Roanoke (interestingly enough, I went to the still-private Steamtown after its recent move on the same trip). Much of the collection still showed signs of the flood damage at the time, and something makes me think not everything had been moved as yet. I do know that exhibits in the buildings of the "new" VMT were still in their infancy, nothing like the quality of today's.

I do have one interesting reminder from that trip; a Bachman HO #611, in its case, which "survived the flood." I believe it was from the flood -damaged gift shop stock, which was being sold at discount due to the potential damage to it. Interestingly enough, after a thorough clean, she did run --- not perfectly, but she did (and does continue to I suppose) run.

Remember TJ, the two "stars" of the collection, 611 and 1218, were in the custody of the NS Steam Program at that time. And, 1604 was on it's way to Baltimore. Plus, a significant amount of the diesel collection was not aquired until after the move.
