I've often thought the sort of idea Erik mentioned would be perfect for one or more of the engines in the Roanoke scrapyard. Unlikely cantidates for restoration, they would look great stripped of jacketing, with the wheels out from under them, sans cab...

Yes and folks the "Lost Engines" of Roanoke are now receiving long needed attention, Last I was informed as of Sept 12 there were two tents over two of the locomotives as the "A" word is being removed. As for where and when and how many of the locomotives will move is another question, I'm currently home on leave from the Navy in the Roanoke Valley and look to go down and take some pictures and get an update on goings on. Also there are the four (Very old) N&W hoppers on the same track as the locomotives that are due to be removed, and saved soon. Last word is that they are to be craned off the tipple and moved, more on that soon as well.
