Unfortunatly Mr. Vopasek's excellent steam oriented course was eliminated in 2000 as the school decided it needed to "modernize" its course offerrings. Seemed like a strange decision to me as there was a waiting list of companies wanting to hire Mr. Vopaseks graduates (he achieved a 100% hire rate the last 5 years of his course) all of whom got great jobs in the power generating industry.
We were blessed to have a number of them volunteer during our Port Jervis program using C&O614 and they were all very dedicated students of steam.
Mr. Vopasek is a fellow part time loco. engineer on the NH&I and is now a power plant supervisor for PSE&G and making somewhere around 3 times the salary he was paid as a teacher!!
I'd bet the hire rate for the kids now graduating through the "modernized" program doesn't come close to 100%!
Ain't progress great!!!

I'm confused by the thread and various responses. Who does own this locomotive? An individual, the county, the college, or another company?

Thanks,

Matt

We are all confused, Matt - that's what this thread is about. Probably a fine legal battle could be waged between competing claims after all this static.

If I recall corectly I believe that the Title to the loco. was signed over from the school to a small non-profit that Mr. Vopasek formed??? To the best of my knowledge it remains there today?
I'll be seeing Frank soon at a 614 loco. crew reunion and I'll ask him and post here.
