I made an inquiry to the parent company at the end of Oct 2000 and got back the following on Nov 1, 2000:

"Chiriqui Land Company once operated two railroads, one in its Armuelles
Division (Pacific side) and one in its Bocas Division (Caribbean side). The
railroad in the Armuelles division ceased operations at the beginning of 1998.
The railroad in the Bocas division continues to operate to this day taking
bananas from the farms to the Port of Almirante on the Caribbean side. Although
in the past both railroads had passenger service, this was discontinued long
ago. Since 1998, the Armuelles division is operated by Puerto Armuelles Fruit
Co., Ltd. and the Bocas division (including the railroad) is operated by Bocas
Fruit Co., Ltd.".
