Flyer says they accept phone, mail, or email bids, so don't be shy about bidding Jeff!

Greg,
Great picture! It brings back some memories. I was four years old when I climbed (helped?) up in the cab of 614 in 1980. I'm 26 now. I cried my head off. I was scared to death of this BIG thing hissing and steaming. When Ross opened the butter-fly doors and I saw all that fire, that did it. I remember sitting in the right seat bawling. Good laugh these days though...

Don't feel bad, I had the same type of experience. When I was 4 or 5 we were on the Pennsy Long Branch line, and my dad said we had an invitation to ride in a K4 to Bay Head Junction. I was too scared so I stayed in the vestibule of the first coach. Dad said.."See Ya" and met me after his cab ride. First and last cab ride I ever turned down. I still remember staring at the back of the tender!
I recently had some of my dads movies transfered and found some K4 stuff, and also a shot of me in the engineers seat of a NYC 2-8-2, looking as if I were running it(5 years old). So I must have gotten over the K4 thing pretty quickly!!! Just wish I had been a bit older to appreciate the end of steam more. Thats why I did some foreign trips when I was older, to photograph and experience everyday steam operations.

Greg,
That picture pretty much sums up why I model N&W in the fall of '55. Great scenery and one beauty of an engine. I've had a couple cab rides here and there, but the one I had in 611 was the best. Bar none.

I don't know the build date on the car. But as to how it ended up there, Henry Ford from the 20's on aquired a collection of everything(not just rail equipment) to chronicle turn of the century America. What a visionary....He even had the foresight to restore every piece of rail history to operating condition before placeing it in his museum.
