Steve, there could be. Some of the projects that are getting done now with stimilus money were not planned to funded for a couple of years. So now that they are getting them done now who knows that will free up some other dollars for a covering for the front engines. Mark is really looking long term up there and is probably getting more projects ready if more money comes his way.

OK, call me a complanier or whatever you want, but here are my two observations:

1. Unless Steamtown gets these engines under cover in another 4-5 years or so they will go back to being rust buckets. Scranton is a harsh climate. Remember that these engines received very thorough cleaning and painting in the mid-to-late 1990s, and see how long that lasted.

2. It is hard for me to believe that Steamtown is waiting for money to do anything, especially just to paint some static displays. Couldn't this have been worked on over the years by their regular staff?

Chris.

Wow...it took only eight posts before the complainers found something else wrong. It's always easy to complain about something when you're on the outside looking in, aint it?

When I visited Steamtown a few years ago, I noticed that there was empty track space in the roundhouse. I asked why there was equipment stored outside in the yard when there was covered space available. The answer was asbestos. I believe that an earlier thread said that asbestos remediation was on the list of recently funded projects. If so, we could see some equipment come inside.

Let's put it this way. There are things planned up there, you just have to ask. The initial painting and asbestos plan was explain to a few of us 18 months ago, including some former RYPN Interchange regulars. Some ideas for cover were discussed as well. The key was funding. Well, funds arrived and work has started.

What needs to be understood is that the people at the park are not idiots. They DO understand what needs to be done. Just because they haven't been able to do it all doesn't mean they aren't trying. Give them time.

I know, I know, time is the enemy of locomotives outside. But if that is the cause of the day, there are other pieces in a lot worse shape, and arguably rarer, around the US that could use help now.

My two cents, again!
