On Saturday, George Peck led a crew consisting of Derek Stapleton, Mark Glaser, and Dick Wilhelm, who worked on various pieces of equipment in the Phoenicia yard, including the gradall, the tie handler, the Duck and the ballast regulator, bringing them all back to life and making maintenance adjustments on them.

Sunday, February 21st.

On Sunday, Earl Pardini led a crew at Cornell street consisting of Mark Glaser, Bob Blake, John Patane, Joe Marsh, and Joe Klapkowski.

They installed new decking on flat car 201, and started up the new spike puller.

Saturday, February 27th

On Saturday, George Peck will lead a crew meeting at Phoenicia between 8:30am to 9am. Plans are to continue to do boltwork somewhere east of the Route 28 crossing in Mt. Pleasant with the work train. However, they also may be spending time in the yard digging out if the snow is bad Thursday.

There will be no work scheduled for Kingston on Saturday.


Sunday, February 28th

Annual Volunteer meeting at the Phoenicia Station starting at 10am.

To all CMRR Volunteers:


It looks like Phoenicia got 4-5 feet of snow, and instead of a volunteer meeting tomorrow, we will be having a Phoenicia dig out, led by George Peck.


Any volunteers who have snow removal equipment, skis, or snowshoes should report to Phoenicia tomorrow (Sunday) between 8:30 and 9am to help out. Please meet at station road (back entrance). Bring whatever equipment you can.


We need to clear snow away from equipment, get access to equipment and the station, and get snow off the roof of the station, trailer, and section house.


There are also lots of trees down in Phoenicia and along the ROW, so bring a chain saw.


Anyone who has a camera, please bring it and send me photos if you can. This is the largest snowfall in at least a generation at Phoenicia, and we want lots of pictures!!

...my condolences.

After working in snow removal through 4 major winter storms (2 less than a week apart) dumping 80+ inches (so far) on a City used to only 20-25 in a winter season, that is the only thing I can offer.

The novelty of "mega snow" wears off quick.....specially when you have NO place to put it.

Sunday, February 28th

Well, instead of a volunteer meeting, we had a dig-out at Phoenicia! George Peck led a crew consisting of Dave Mason, Brian Mason, Greg Peck, Mark Glaser, Stan Blazek, Rich Bause, Mike LaLonde, Tom Healy, Joe Marsh, Ryan Marsh, Mike Adsit, and Earl Pardini.

With Dave Mason and Earl Pardini on backhoes, they cleared a path to the section house and to the parking lot around the station. The section house roof and station roof were cleared of snow. Unfortunately, the trailer roof collapsed, so we have one casualty of the snow.

Tracks were not cleared. That is next weekend's project. We have to be able to move the equipment to Mt. Tremper in case flooding results from this big snow.

Saturday, March 6th

On Saturday, George Peck will lead a crew clearing the track from Phoenicia to Mt. Tremper so that equipment can be moved in case of flooding. All volunteers who are available are asked to attend, as this will be a big job. Bring chain saws and snow removal equipment.



There will be no work scheduled for Kingston on Saturday.

Today we had two crews working in Phoenicia. First, Earl Pardini led a crew consisting of John Patane, Mark Glaser, and Bob Blake that finished installing a snowplow on the east end of CMRR No. 29:

Saturday, March 20th

On Saturday, George Peck and Earl Pardini will lead crews moving equipment back to Phoenicia yard from the mainline. They will also be working on many projects in the yard, including cleanup.

Joe Klapkowski will lead a crew installing the decking on flat 202 in the Phoenicia yard. If you would like to help out, bring carpentry tools including a good circular saw and drill. If you can, let Joe know ahead of time that you will be there.

There will be no work scheduled for Kingston on Saturday.

The CMRR Annual Stockholder meeting will be held at the Phoenicia Station at 7pm. All stockholders and volunteers are invited.

Saturday, March 20th

On Saturday, we had four crews working.

In Shokan, George Cook, Todd Syska and Bruce Devorkin led a crew that removed trees from the ROW from MP 16 to 10.

In Phoenicia, Joe Klapkowski and Mike LaLonde worked on flat car 202 and cut half the planks to the correct length for installation.

Also in Phoenicia, Al Johnson, Ed Palmatier, and Dick Wilhelm worked on the 702. They painted the steps and car ends.

George Peck, Earl Pardini, Greg Peck, PJ Hintz, Derek Stapleton and Steve Gallow moved the equipment back from the mainline into the Phoenicia yard.


Sunday, March 21st

Thanks Ernie - I was having mental images of checking for locked engines or blown traction motors, etc... I'll take the post of preparing for movement and paint as a good sign for the future! We have family in Warwick and Middletown, and we're hoping to bring the kids up for a visit/ride this summer.
