It is my understanding, after a few phone calls, that Wasatch is on the job and has been for about 2 months. Progress is being made. The 14's firebox has been fitted up and welded in and the front tube sheet patch has been installed. Other boiler work is underway.

Bill Johnson is back on the scene as well, according to sources at Stearns.

The railroad's website has been updated with some pictures of recent progress on #14, as of this past June.

Very glad to see this big project nearer to completion.

Bill Johnson of the K&T and Big South Fork Scenic and some of his friends, visited the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum recently. Bill says that the K&T is very happy with the work being performed by Wasatch.

BTW, Bill and his group restored an old Thomas "shorty" school bus to travel around in. A great restoration story in itself!

I like the video, would love to see the entire thing, looks like the boiler is the only thing that is left before it is complete, any chance to see it running in 2014? And what about the thought of 4501 making a run up the mountain when she comes to Stearns (remember just a thought)?

The video link does not work for me at all. I can get the other clips to play, but not this one.

From Stearns its not "up the mountain", its really "down to the mine", the topography there being kinda upside down, where the towns are on flatter land up top and the railroad snakes down into the river valley.
And yes, it sure would be neat to 4501 back on her (2nd) home rails.

IronTie -

Hmmm; that's an interesting thought! Can we alter her for a vintage photo freight to make her look like she appeared as K&T #12? Here she was then:

Find some authentic vintage hoppers and give her another run at the hill? If it happens, I'll buy a ticket!

That's right, I remember reading in David P. Morgans book "Locomotive 4501" that she would be limited to only 6 loaded cars up grade back to Stearns.

Seems to me we had a rather long thread about that here on RyPN a while back.
