There was talk of modifying a transfer caboose with a wheelchair lift.

The Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum does have an ex-EJ&E transfer caboose outfitted with a wheelchair lift (the only one of its kind that we know of). It is a popular addition to our trains and we're happy to help our visitors with limited mobility experience the ride.

The Texas State Railroad has a caboose attached to their regular train that is available for groups who wish to rent it in it's entirity. I am not sure if it is there on every train; or only when a group has decided to rent it.

The M&H RR had dedicated caboose hops for the Middletown Autumn Fest in 2007 and on weekends in Hummelstown during 2008. In 2009 caboose runs were limited to photo charters and a Conrail Historical Society charitable fund raiser. It is my understanding that caboose hops are being considered for 2010, this time out of Middletown. We will need to wait for the final schedule to know for sure.

folks,

I thought you'd like to hear this one. The Maritime Museum building in San Francisco is a 1930's WPA building that was built without an elevator of any sort. In the 1950s it got an elevator that went from the lower level to the first floor.

A couple of years ago the building got a major overhaul to the tune of about $5 million. So it was time to do an up grade on the elevator. At first the Powers that be said no; they only want to keep track of one construction contractor at a time. happily this decision was overruled. Our people said "We can do it!"

So now there is a brand new unit which connects the lower level to the first exhibit floor and for the first time to the second exhibit floor. It is some ride as the door opens on a different side on each floor.

And to end on a railroad theme. The Western Pacific Railroad Museum runs some of the longest caboose trains I have ever seen. The day i was there they had five of them on a
Diesel powered train.

and a few years ago the Westrn railway Museum sent them a couple of modern steel caboose; so their trains may get even longer!

Southeastern Railway Muesum runs 100% cabooses. One a SR transfer, heavily modified. The second a standard steel caboose lettered CRR but really a Monon.
