The lathe has been scrapped.

Nobody won out on this one. The scrapper possibly made back the cost of the acetylene and equipment needed to break it apart. Counting labor, he may have lost money.

The one consolation is that during the scrapping process, the scrappers found hidden damage and deterioration not known about before, which would have made even a commercial rehabilitation of this particular lathe an unfeasible proposition.

At least there's one less "eyesore" on Falls Road.
