Here is the link to the story:

http://www.circlevilleherald.com/articl ... 403518.txt

The caboose was owned by the men’s club, but they wanted it removed from the property because they feared the liability of kids playing on it, as was occurring regularly. They could have built a fence around it and kept the kids off of it, but they chose not to do that.

So they gave the caboose to Tony Price, with the understanding that Tony Price would have to remove the caboose from the men’s club’s property. And they (the men’s club) say that Tony Price told them he intended to cut the caboose into three pieces and have it moved to his property and resurrected there. Instead, Tony Price scrapped the caboose, or at least tore it up with apparently no intent to save it or resurrect it.

Now the men’s club is complaining that Ashville lost a piece of its history. But Ashville would have lost the piece of history once Tony Price removed the caboose, no matter whether Tony Price scrapped the caboose or saved it on his property.

I doubt that the men’s club had a contract that controlled what Tony Price did with the caboose once he took possession of it. It seems to me that the men’s club is responsible for the outcome.

It's very sad to see an N&W caboose like this one, which was faded for a while, then painted up recently, and suddenly scrapped for no good reason. Did someone have a grudge with the owner?
