That is more like what EMD thought of their Model 40 when it appeared on the 2nd hand market. I think one did escape to Travel Town in Los Angeles.

Sharing the answer to a question I received from another participant in this forum, EMD seems to have operated this "locomotive" with a two person crew, and they were seated in the cab. Given the relatively small size of the cab, two people were probably mandatory for proper visibility. I would estimate the size of the 1936 as about forty feet long, roughly 1/2 size for a 4-6-2. Unfortunately I have not seen any photos of the cab interior to see the seating and control arrangement.

a steam powered emd is not as crazy as it sounds. the skinner engine company had at least experimented with using some gm v8s i believe as the basis for a steam engine. i do not remember how far the project went.

There was/is a large model railroad at the McCook, IL plant. Probably plenty of steam engine models ran there.

One certainly did make it to Travel Town and continues to operate.

There are several others around in museums and elsewhere in various states of restoration.
