Back around May 2012, Preservation NJ announced that the CRR of NJ Jersey City Terminal Train Shed is on their 10 Most Endangered NJ Structures List for 2012. This link should take you to the press release:

http://www.preservationnj.org/site/ExpE ... New_Jersey

From what I can see the Liberty Historic Railway, Inc. (LHRy) is taking the lead to try to do something with the structure to include submission of grant applications. Their web site can be found at http://www.lhry.org/

So, there is an effort to save it, but I'm sure more people and money could only help the situation.

Yes, JR I'm told that a few of those who opposed siteing the Heritage Center at LSP are now making an attempt to do so.

Sorry to say that its time has come and gone.

NJ is for all practical purposes stone broke so the chances of getting any cash help from the State are less than zero. The battleship New Jersey which would have been one of the headliner marine display icons has gone to Camden, the Bush trainshed has materially deteriorated to the point that it would take a mega amount of funding to restore some of it for displays and live tracks, the LSP Nimbys are stronger than ever and only a very strong, loud endorsement from the Governor would cure them, and so on.

Shame is that the beautifully restored and very historic CRRofNJ Terminal building sits there literally in the shadow of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island and goes unused about 345 days/year.

Sad but true.

I will back up Ross' statement about the LSP nimby's the "Friends of LSP" group is very strong and in the past have been against any large scale use of the train shed for a rail museum. They are ok with a few pieces being displayed, but that is it.

Realistically the FOLSP group wants the entire park to be a nature preserve and nothing more.

Actually, Rodney Dangerfield....

But to the point, what have we done to earn it? Have we given back to our communities value that they care about adequate to be held in as high regard as the symphony or art museum?

I've had it brought home in many ways that many of us care much more about our own narrow interest than in that of our communities, and simply don't care but constantly wonder why they aren't more supportive since we don't reach out very well to those who aren't warped in the same ways we are.

We can't even compete with a trail on the ground......
